The Story of A Motivated Youth Leader and Former President of Ijaw Youth Council- Udengs Eradiri

The desire to be among the top notch that makes things happen for the betterment of society rather than being among those who watch things happen is the driving force for any good leader.

Udengs Eradiri is not allien to this classification, he is the right man to give leadership and mentorship to the future generation.

Udengs Eradiri is that servant leader that is willing to be the voice that would make things happen for the good in Bayelsa state and the entire Ijaw Nation, he has a drive to affect things and the lives of people positively.

Engineer Udengs was born on March 22nd, 1976 to the popular Eradiri family from Agudama-Ekpetiama community in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa state.

He started his early education in Calabar, Cross Rivers state, then later went to Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, he finally completed his secondary education in his hometown. He got admitted into the University of Benin where he studied Production Engineering, thereafter, he did a course in Dredging Technology. 

The young Udengs ventured into politics early as an undergraduate at University of Benin, where he held several positions as Member of parliament, UNIBEN, Secretary of Bayelsa State Students Association, National Union of Bayelsa State Students, NUBSS, President of Engineering Students Association and Izon-ebe student politics.

With this political background and experience, he joined the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC where he became the Secretary-General and later became the President of IYC in 2016. He organized the youth body to serve as a voice and platform for the advancement of Ijaw youths.

Udengs Eradiri later became the Commissioner for Youth Development in 2018. As a man of action, he started a youth policy in the state to ensure that young people in Bayelsa state are given an opportunity to be part of governance. He created a database of young persons who are talented in various skills in the agricultural sector, fish farming entrepreneurship, arts and craftsmanship. Through his innovative ideas, many young talented persons were discovered, empowered and given opportunities to showcase their skills and abilities within and outside the state.

 Today beneficiaries of his Bayelsa young entrepreneurs round table has produced several manufacturers, agriculturists amongst which a female fashionist became the pride of Bayelsa when she won for the first time a national fashion competition in Nigeria.

He also initiated plans to upgrade the various craft development centers in the state in order to build capacity for the youths so they can add value to their lives and the economy of Bayelsa state.

Engr. Udengs later moved to the Ministry of Environment as its Commissioner, a position he held for only a few months, he reorganized the Ministry and established a climate change unit and department of legal services. He set up a budget and generated funds for the ministry. During his short stay in the Ministry of Environment, he mobilized staff and went on inspection tours to ensure that Bayelsans get quality products and services in shops and markets. The only commissioner that did a complete budget for his ministry and attached it as part of his handover note.

Currently, he runs his own business, Radnitz Integrated Services which specializes in dredging, oil and gas services. He is a dredging expert. 

Having exposed himself to other parts of the world and seen their growth and development, he is motivated to be a part of solving the problems of the Ijaw youths, the Niger Delta region and particularly, Bayelsa state.

Engineer Udengs Eradiri is and remains a role model and inspiration to many young persons particularly in the Niger Delta region. He advises youths to be disciplined and shun all forms of violence adding that they should look inward and properly utilize their innate abilities to improve themselves and make society a better place.
