Governor Samuel Ortom Calls For Return To Parliamentary System

Governor Samuel Ortom calls for return to parliamentary system

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom son Thursday has advised the country to return to a parliamentary system of government.

The Governor made this call while giving a speech in Makurdi during the inauguration of the Benue State Constitution Review Committee headed by the former state Chief Judge, Adam Onum.

According to Governor Ortom, the parliamentary system of government provides power sharing opportunities for both big and smaller parties and full participation of citizens in government.

According to Ortom, the parliamentary system of government is less complex. He suggested for the establishment of Constitutional Court that will support the Supreme Court in settling disputes between the levels of government as a court of first and last resort.

He also called for judicial reforms and electoral reforms to help strengthen the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for transparent, credible, free, and fair elections in Nigeria
