The Nigeria Governors Forum has condemned the tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of 23 people on Rukuba Road in Plateau's Jos North Local Government Area. They strongly disapproved of the attacks on innocent travellers on a major highway in the state. They did this in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Public Affairs, Mr Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, in Abuja.
While describing the killing as barbaric and senseless, it stated that it bore all the hallmarks of several others, such as how locals had become inhospitable and unwelcoming to other Nigerians living in or passing through their domains, which is really terrible.
“These heinous actions which have resulted in unwarranted and unnecessary loss, diminish us all as a people and drag our country down to the deepest recesses of civilization's absence. “They also cause a slew of retaliatory killings and harmful interactions that benefit no one.
“The NGF views the horrible and thoughtless loss of precious lives with extreme disgust and declares unequivocally that it must cease immediately.”
They urged the country's security agencies to apprehend all those involved and bring them to face the full force of the law as a deterrent to those considering similar action.
It insisted that no human life should be wasted for any reason, whether religious or ethnic, or even on the frivolous altar of mistaken identity.
They hope that the citizens will refrain from taking the law into their own hands, allowing this nation to become a safe haven for all.
They encouraged all aggrieved ethnic nationalities and their militias to avoid inessential blood she’d by seeking the enforcement assistance and legal redress (NAN) at all times.
