The position of the National Secretary of the party zoned to the Southeast geopolitical zone has generated a lot of controversies.
According to a report by PUNCH newspaper, the chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party from Southeast have rejected the candidacy of Senator Sam Anyanwu for the position of the National Secretary of PDP zoned to Southeast.

Southeast PDP chieftains like former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha amongst others have rejected the candidacy of Senator Anyanwu for the position of PDP National Secretary because of one reason.
The PDP chieftains in the Southeast rejected the candidacy of Anyanwu because of what they described as an imposition.

The Southeast chieftains disclosed that the choice of Anyanwu as the consensus candidate of the southeast for the position of National Secretary of PDP is an imposition because the meeting hosted by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on October 14, ended in a stalemate.
The Southeast leaders on the platform of PDP maintained that they never elect Anyanwu to represent the zone as the National Secretary of the party.

According to the report, the Southeast chieftains are not happy with the situation and alleged that Senator Anyanwu is being imposed on Southeast as its consensus candidate for PDP National Secretary by a governor from South-south.
Recalled that an earlier report stated that Senator Anyanwu had emerged as the consensus candidate of PDP for the position of National Secretary of the party after thorough deliberation by the leaders and members of PDP from the Southeast zone.
The recent development has shown that the Chieftains of PDP from Southeast do not support the candidacy of Senator Anyanwu for the position of National Secretary of PDP.
