The Edo election which is scheduled to hold on September 19 is just at the corner. It seems it is going to be a real clash of Titans between Ize-Iyamu the APC candidate and Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP. In 2016, the erstwhile National Chairman of the APC Comrade Adams Oshiomhole single handedly brought in Governor Godwin Obaseki to power to replace him. Close to the end of Governor Obaseki's first tenure, there was series of irreconcilable differences between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his boss Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, which lead to their separation, leaving Governor Godwin Obaseki of the APC to decamp to the PDP this year.
The political road became rough for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He was taken to court by a seven member panel of the APC in his ward in Edo state, the panel prayed the court to suspend him from being the party Chairman of the APC due to issues relating to party disruption and other allegations laid on him. The Court of Appeal upheld the prayer which lead to his suspension as been the national chairman of the party. Due to series of his irreconcilable differences between him and his boy Governor Godwin Obaseki, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole decides to pick Pastor Ize-Iyamu who he campaigned against in 2016 to fight Obaseki who now has truncated to the PDP.
As the Edo State governorship election draws near, the erstwhile leader of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has returned to his hometown in Etsako West LGA in Edo State to ensure he help reclaim the state back to the APC, by helping Pastor Ize-Iyamu of the APC win the forthcoming governorship election.
With all of these on ground, it seems apart from being the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has more clean chances that will help him defeat his opponent Pastor Ize-Iyamu of the APC come September 19, 2020. From my personal analysis here are seven achievements of Obaseki that will help him scale through in the election.
1. His legacies within the last four years
Within the last four years of his first tenure, Governor Godwin Obaseki has succeeded in stealing the heart of the Edo people (especially the Edo central and Edo South), with his astounding legacies. When he came to power in 2016, he has since maintained good track record that will be difficult for anyone to dispute, deny or disagree. His good legacy is one thing that he will help him win the forthcoming governorship election in the State.
2. Elimination of double taxation
One good achievement that has benefited even the poorest of the poor Edo people is Governor Godwin Obaseki's elimination of double taxation in the state. Today in the Edo State the poor masses, artisans, market men and women and traders are happy with the governor and they are solidly behind him.
3. Elimination of Agberos, Touts and other forms of extortions
Governor Godwin Obaseki has succeeded in outlawing the crass insubordination and hooliganism otherwise called "Agberos" from collection of revenue in the state, thus, replacing them with human relation, friendly and modern technology models.
4. Payments of salaries as at when due
Governor Godwin Obaseki has also stolen the heart of civil servants in the state, by his prompt payment of salaries both to the state and local government as at when due.
5. Increase in the IGR of the state
Before 2016, local governments, like the cosmopolitan local government in the state that were finding it very difficult to realize N10 million from their Internally Generated Revenue ( IGR) , today now generate N 100 million on the average every month from the same IGR.
6. Crashing the cost of obtaining C of O
One major achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki, even though he might have step on the toes of some privileged powerful few, is his policy that crashed the cost of obtaining the Certificate of Occupancy C of O, from N1 million to 50,000.00.
7. Construction, reconstructed and rehabilitation of projects in the state
Governor Godwin Obaseki vowed to put his life on the line for the development of Edo and to erect his administration on the tripod; of urban renewable, agricultural infrastructure and industrial template. On the issue of infrastructural development, Governor Godwin Obaseki reconstruction of the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, rehabilitated schools and established three other technical colleges to mention but a few.
On the aspect of agriculture, Governor Godwin Obaseki has facilitated the return of the Michelin Rubber Estate to Uronigbe Rubber Plantation Reserve. He has also revitalized the Ikpeshi Rice Farm and flagged-off the N 78 billion palm plantation investment in the state. More so, Obaseki has made some major developmental strides in some towns of the Esanland. Some of the development included the road construction especially in Ekpoma, Ambrose Alli University main campus. This giant step has endeared him to the people of the Esanland greatly.
In conclusion, with all of these achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki, I think that the Edo State governorship election is a walk over for him. His works will work for him. Do you agree with these?
