Ahead of the 2023 Ebonyi State Gubernatorial Election , All eyes are currently on Aspirants from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) jostling to Succeed Governor David Umahi whose second term tenure 'll elapse on the 29th of May, 2023. Below are the Names of the Top Five Contenders that could emerge as the Next Governor of Ebonyi State.

1. Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga (PDP)Ogbaga, 59 is a Teacher, Administrator and Politician currently representing Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives. He came into political limelight in 1999 after his Election as Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area and served in that capacity until 2002. Hon. Ogbaga served simultaneously as Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Ebonyi State Chapter. In 2011, He was elected to represent Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the PDP platform. Hon. Ogbaga who is currently a Third-term Lawmaker won re-elections during the 2015 and 2019 General Elections.

2. Professor Bernard Odoh (APC)

Odoh, 45 was a Professor of Geophysics at the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Akwa , Anambra State until 2014 when he resigned to contest for Ebonyi Central Senatorial Primaries, he decamped to the PDP after losing the APC Senatorial Ticket. Odoh was appointed as Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government (SSG) in July 2015, he held that position until September 2018 and returned to his former party, the APC to pursue his Governorship Ambition. However, he lost to Senator Sonny Ogbuoji at the APC Primaries.

3. Senator Obinna Ogba (PDP)

Ogba, 59 began his political career as the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youths and Sports in 2002, He later became the Chairman of Ebonyi State Football Association in 2003. In March 2015, the Ishielu-born Politician was elected to represent Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly under the PDP platform, Senator Ogba was re-elected into the Nigerian Senate during the February 2019 General Elections. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports.

4. Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru (APC)Nwifuru, 45 is the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. He was an Ex-officio Member of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) between 2009 and 2011. Nwifuru was elected as Member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly during the April 2011 general elections. Shortly after his inaguration, He became the Deputy Chief Whip, a position he held until 2015. Following his re-election in 2015, Nwifuru emerged as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Again in 2019, He was re-elected for a Third-term and subsequently returned as Speaker making him the only Two-time Speaker in the History of Ebonyi State.

5. Hon. Edwin Anayo (PDP)

Anayo, 44 is popularly known as Anatex in the political circle and beyond. He is the Member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Hon. Anayo was a One-time Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Bayelsa State Government on Non-indigene Affairs. In 2015, He contested for and won the Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency Seat under the PDP flag. Hon. Anayo was re-elected for a Second-term in 2019.
