The 2023 general elections is fastly sprinting very close. Every political party is perfecting her plans towards securing the highest political post in Nigeria. Many individuals with presidential aspirations are already running helter-skelter to establish their relevance as suitable presidential candidates.
Notably, the former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu is one of these individuals who have made obvious and constructive moves towards the 2023 presidential elections. Aside being an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Tinubu has also reached out to other political stakeholders.
However, the political battle for the next president of Nigeria is gradually getting intense with the emergence of many sociocultural groups and political factions. Understandably, all of these sociocultural groups are working assiduously to endorse individuals that have the tendencies of recognising their interests as a group. These groups even have more integral role in the political success of any aspirant more than the aspirant's political party.
For one to be successful in the presidential election, the person needs to identify the regions and groups that may have opposing intentions towards his ambitions. This is undoubtedly the area where Tinubu is taking the lead. Being a Southerner, Tinubu has perfectly understood the relevance of Northerners in the election of the next president of Nigeria. With their teeming population, Northerners support is much needed for the success of any presidential aspirant. Understanding this, Tinubu has already made decisive steps towards securing the support of the Northerners.
What are these decisive steps?
First, Ahmed Tinubu recently refurbished the Arewa House library. As part of his philanthropic gestures in the Northern part of the country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu revitalised the Arewa House library to an international standard. The Arewa House library is a centre for research and historical documentations under Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira, located in Kaduna state. With it's academic relevance, the library has impacted into the lives of many Northerners.
Second, a political youth group in support of the political ambitions of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged in the Northern part of the country. Under the auspices of Tinubu-Arewa Youth Political Support, a local government representatives committee has been established. The local government representatives committee otherwise known as "Fields Reps" is established to support the presidential aspiration of senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023.
According to the group, one resourceful person has been constituted in each LGA across the 19 Northern states to create awareness for Tinubu's political ambitions. Aside it's awareness purposes, the group has tasked itself to generate upto N45 million to purchase the APC presidential form for Tinubu.
Moreso, during the past Ramadan season, there was a viral video and pictures showing bags of rice branded with Tinubu's face with the inscription "JAGABA-Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu" being distributed to Northerners. The kind gesture undoubtedly left an indelible notion in the minds of Northerners. Though Tinubu later denied having any hand in the philanthropic gesture but he however, commended the efforts of the various volunteer groups responsible for the act of charity.
Obviously, from the foregoing, it is very clear that Tinubu is undoubtedly the only presidential aspirant who has taken necessary steps to harness the support and love of Northerners. With these decisive moves and many others, the 2023 presidential aspirations of Ahmed Tinubu would be greatly endorsed by Northerners.
