US President Joe Biden speaks on Nigeria's presidential election

United States President, Joe Biden has charged Nigerians to go out on Saturday to vote for the presidential candidate of their choices.

Biden, in a statement said elections were fundamental part of a functioning democracy and that all Nigerians deserved this chance to choose their future freely and fair.

He charged Nigerians, especially the youths and irrespective of their religion, region or ethnicity to exercise their franchise.

Biden said it was by doing this that they would make their voices heard in the nation’s democracy.

The US’ president emphasised that his country did not have any particular candidate of choice and would not support anyone.

Biafran Agitator, Simon Ekpa, Released After Grilling In Finland

Self-acclaimed pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, was released yesterday after his arrest and grilling by Finnish police.

According to a Finland-based newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, the authorities nabbed Ekpa at his residence located at Lahti.

He was said to be preparing for a newspaper interview before he was arrested and whisked into detention.

In a manner similar to that of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Ekpa had been inciting violence in Nigeria from his base in Finland.

7 Killed, Scores Injured As Gunmen Attack Benue Communities

Less than 48 hours to the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections, gunmen in separate attacks in four local government areas in Benue State have killed seven farmers and injured scores of others.

The executive secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Emmanuel Shior who disclosed this in Makurdi during the flag-off of the distribution of food and non-food materials to the displaced persons named the affected LGs and communities as Agagbe in Gwer-West, Ikobi in Apa, Tyulen in Guma and Logo.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered from some locals in Guma that one of the victims Tyover Adzuu who was killed during the attacks was a younger brother to Governor Samuel Ortom’s aide, Frank Adzuu.

252 Terrorists Surrender, Troops Kill 69, Arrest 71 – DHQ

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said its troops operating in the North East, North Central, North West and South East have neutralized 69 terrorists, arrested 71, while another 252 surrendered in two weeks.

Director of defence media operations Major-general Musa Danmadami who disclosed this during the biweekly update on Armed Forces of Nigeria operations between 9 – 23 February 2023 said 47 civilians held captives by the terrorists were rescued.

In the North-East, he said troops neutralized 27 terrorists and arrested 18 Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists’ logistics suppliers, spies and informants at different locations within the theatre as well as rescued 20 abducted civilians.

He said 252 Boko Haram terrorists/ISWAP terrorists and member of their families comprising 24 adult male, 79 adult female and 150 children surrendered to troops at different locations within the theatre of operations.
