What Aregbesola’s loyalists' decision to shun appeal committee means and how it may affect the APC

Following the crisis that marred the All Progressive Congress (APC) state Congress that was held in Osun states last weeks, the party in a bid to mend fences with aggrieved members who held parallel congresses set up an Appeal Committee to look into the grievances of warring factions in the state.

Recall that during the state Congress of the APC in Osun State, two parallel congresses were held which produced two different state executive chairmen of the party. While the Congress backed by the Governor of the state, Ggboyega Oyetola, produced Ggboyega Famodun as the state chairman of the party; the one backed by the immediate past Governor of the state and current minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola produced Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile as its chairman.

However, aggrieved members of the APC who are loyal to Aregbesola have refused to appear before the appeal committee to resolve the crisis that came up after the state, the Daily Trust reports.

What Aregbesola’s supporters' shunning of the Appeal committee means.

In my opinion, the refusal of the loyalists of Aregbesola to approach the appeal committee means they are not sure the judgement of the committee will go in their favour. Recall that a report by the Punch claimed the national leadership of the APC will only recognise the Congress conducted by incumbent state Governors in APC states as the authentic Congress conducted in the state. Going by this claim, Aregbesola and his loyalists might lose out of the power tussle in the state even if they appear before the committee.

How it will affect APC in Osun State.

Osun State will be having another governorship election next July, the factional crisis in Osun APC may affect the party’s chances of winning unless Aregbesola and Oyetola decide to sheath their swords. Though their is a factional crisis also in the leading opposition in the state, the PDP, the APC should not bank on that because the division within its ranks in the state appears to be more grievous considering the clashes that has been recorded between loyalists of Aregbesola and Oyetola.
