The man who stood besides Martin Luther King while fighting for justice died at 80.

Congressman John Lewis loomed large as a young civil rights icon, standing beside the late Dr. Martin L. King fighting for justice. He died Friday night at 80 years old.

He was a tough congressman who battled courageously until the end. It wouldn’t be an elaboration to imply that he shifted the world in which he was born.

This picture was taken the last time I was in his presence in Atlanta. He wasn’t tall in stature, but he truly stood head and shoulders above others in the room.

Certainly he was larger than life in acquiring many of the liberations many Americans now take for granted! The soldier has taken his leave, but he will go down in American history for his valiant boldness and persistent cry for freedom!.

John Robert Lewis is an American politician and civil rights leader. He is the United States Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving in his 17th term in the House, having served since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation.

John Robert was born on 21 February 1940, Troy, Alabama, United States, he Died on 17 July 2020, Atlanta, Georgia, US.
