Parallel Congresses: Will The Sanction Of Aregbesola, Shekarau, Others Benefit The APC?

According to a recent Daily Trust news report, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been placed under intense pressure to sanction the top political actors who sponsored the parallel congresses that held in some state chapters of the party across the country. Some of these top political actors whose camp reportedly held parallel congresses, included the likes of former Governors; Ibrahim Shekarau, Rauf Aregbesola, Ibikunle Amosun, Akinwunmi Ambode as well as Godswill Akpabio.

However, will the sanction of these major party stakeholders by the APC leadership benefit the party? While the use of this procedure may serve as deterrent to others, there is the risk that the decision may further worsen the crisis within the party in these states, due to the delicacy of the issue. Certainly, the party leadership may be seen as taking sides, should it go ahead with the issuance of sanctions, while the contentious issues still persist. Nevertheless, what can the party do amid the festering crisis?

Surely, intensifying reconciliatory actions to bring the camps of these aggrieved stakeholders to a compromise, may yield better results for the party than the use of sanctions. One thing may be certain and that is, the decision of the leadership around this issue, may have a huge impact on the party especially towards the national convention.
