The Ekiti state police command has confirmed that no fewer than six persons have lost their lives in a clash between rival cult groups in the state. It was learnt that the six corpse have been deposited at the morgue after the clash which happened in the early hours of Sunday, April 18.

The police explained that the casualties who were killed during the incident belong to one of the cult groups which was attacked by the other apparently on issues of rivalry.

A source in the area who prefers to remain anonymous said the sound of sporadic gunshots was heard while the attack lasted, forcing residents of the area to run for safety amid tension.

The police said they have deployed a significant number of officers to the area to ensure the restoration of law and order. They also appealed to residents of the area to remain calm, saying that its officers will sustain efforts to always put criminals under check.

Buhari has not failed Nigerians - Masari

His Excellency, the executive governor of Kastina state, Bello Masari has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has not failed, that he has only tolerated Nigerians. The governor of Kastina state and a prominent member of the ruling party spoke with TV continental, saying the President has not failed on his campaign promises he made before assuming power in 2015.

President Muhammadu Buhari rode into power on a wave of goodwill after promising to fight insecurity, fix the nation's economy and rid the country of corruption.

However, the governor said the ruling party remains the most reliable party in Nigeria notwithstanding the country's challenges. He, however, admitted that he believes so because he leads Kastina, where President Muhammadu Buhari came from, in addition to being a member of the ruling party.

The governor said protests over the dissatisfaction with the current administration's actions and inactions are expected in a democratic nation like Nigeria, concluding that things would have been different under the previous administration.

Over 1,000 APC supporters decamped to PDP.

As reported by daily post, no fewer than 1,000 supporters of former Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Marafa have dumped the ruling party and embraced the opposition party in the state.

The decamped supporters were received by the party's state chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani who later presented them to Governor Bello Mattawale at the state house in Gusau, the state capital.

Leader of the decamped supporters said they were at the Governor's residence to register their support as they had declared their defection earlier at the state PDP Council Secretariat and were warmly received by the party's state chairman.

He said the reason that led to their defection to the opposition party was due to the way and manner the governor is handling the security situation in the state, and the many laudable projects he is executing in less than two years of being in office.

He also opined that it is on record that before Governor Mattawale assumed office as the state governor, Zamfara state residents were in a serious war with banditry and kidnappings which almost destroyed the state to a failed one as nothing was working in the state.

Responding, the governor said his government was determined to bring growth and development to the state at all levels with a view of making the state more secured and economically friendly. He said as a leader, your primary objective is to protect the lives and properties of the people in the state including their worth and dignity.

The governor assured the decamped supporters of equal right in the opposition party and also commended their foresight and positive decision on joining the opposition party, saying the party is on mission of delivery good governance to its people.
