If I had Gone To His Father's Burial, Would He Have Risen? — Wike on Governor Douye Diri
By Edoreport (self media writer) | 20 days ago
Governor of Rivers StateNyesom Wike expressed his concerns about the importance of attending Governor Douye Diri's father's funeral during a press conference. He asked rhetorically, "Had I attended his father's burial, would he have come back to life?" Wike expressed his confusion over the type of politics being used and made it clear that neither he nor Diri had been to their stepmother's funeral.
Insisting vehemently that Rivers State residents uphold a higher standard, the governor emphasized his determination to prevent his state from adopting such practices. He insisted that Diri's support for Atiku Abubakar had no bearing on his decisions, and vehemently denied that this.
Wike stressed that his absence should not be cause for concern by mentioning that notable figures including Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo, and Atiku Abubakar attended the burial.
Wike also discussed his own loss of his stepmother and the possibility that no one had shown up for her funeral. He came to the conclusion that there was no reason for complaints or expectations regarding his attendance at Diri's father's funeral.
