The Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Council has shed light on the lingering controversy over the status of Lagos State in the geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
The controversy was triggered by the argument that surround the campaign of Gbadebo Rhode-Vivour, the governorship candidate of the Labour party who is believed to have been born of a mother from Igbo extraction while his father is a Lagosian.
The argument also predicated on the massive votes given to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Dr Peter Obi in Lagos. It was believed that Igbo residents in Lagos are majorly responsible for the overwhelming votes that gave him an edge over his rival and candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who won the election.
The argument also popped up the statement made by Oba of Lagos in 2017, saying Lagos is not a Yoruba State but bears its origin from Benin.
Speaking on the development while featuring on Arise TV Morning Show on Tuesday, Dotun Hassan, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Council said Lagos is a Yoruba land and that should not be contested.
He was speaking on the backdrop of general notion which says Lagos is a no man's land.
Dotun Hassan revealed that: "As represented by Law and history, Lagos is a Yoruba land."
He however said the state has always given room for both indegenes and non indegenes of the state to thrive.
He said: "As represented by law and history, Lagos is a Yoruba land. Irrespective, it has always given room for non-indigenes to thrive. A lot of the perpetrators of ills in Lagos are the non-indigenes."
