In contrast to the reports that the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has imposed a ban on the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state, the Governor wishes to make it clear that only the activities of the unions have been suspended.
Governor Akeredolu suspended the union's activities, particularly in the motor parks, following security reports suggesting an imminent clash between the two opposing factions in the union over the leadership turmoil.
The Governor's intervention becomes imperative in order to prevent a possible breach of law and order. Governor Akeredolu would like to reiterate that he did not establish a ban on NURTW and RTEAN as unions, but quickly suspended their activities until they had met with the two factions to hold.
In the meantime, the leadership of the two Unions has been directed to clear the motor parks for peace to reign.
Olabode Richard Olatunde
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo state.
