It could be recalled that some leaders and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the main opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have agreed to conduct the National Convention of the party which has been slated to hold between Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, 2021.
Considerably, the three aspirants for PDP NWC positions who were disqualified are, surely, keen loyalists of the erstwhile national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.
Those disqualified were: Prof Wale Oladipo (Osun) who expressed interest in the position of Deputy National Chairman South, Okey Muo-Aroh (Anambra) who expressed interest in the position of National Secretary, and Dr Olafeso Eddy (Ondo) National Publicity Secretary.
Standing on the constitution of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state, made this announcement during the official media launch of the 2021 national convention logo and promotional materials, at the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, on Thursday, October 21.
Ahead of the forthcoming national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, the screening sub-committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has disqualified three aspirants from contesting for positions in the NWC.
It was further revealed that the aspirants were disqualified for taking the party to court and planning to stop the convention.
Remarkably, the erstwhile National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, and some of his loyalists have taken the opposition party to court to challenge the removal of Secondus and, legally, stop the party from embarking on the planned National Convention.
The party has encouraged the aggrieved members to adopt internal mechanism toward settling their grievances. Unfortunately, Prince Uche Secondus and some of his loyalists, including those that were screened out by the PDP Convention Committee, have chosen to pursue their request for justice to logical conclusion.
