As the race for the highly coveted office of the governor continues to gather steam across the Lagos metropolis, the flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has come out to give reasons why a state House of Assembly dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won't be enough to frustrate his plans to deliver good governance to Lagosians if elected into office on the ballots this coming Saturday.
Speaking during an interview on Wazobia TV's 'As E Dey Hot' program on Wednesday night, Gbadebo insisted that not only are there Labour Party candidates also vying for seats in the House of Assembly in Lagos but the people of the state will stand behind him against a hostile legislature as long as he works for the interest of the state.
" This won't be a problem because first and foremost, we have a full set of House of Assembly candidates that are also working hard to ensure that they win some seats. Secondly, you have to realize that these politicians also have families who are suffering hardship. Besides, there are lots of people in the ruling party who aren't happy with what is going on.
Even if these APC House of Assembly members drive SUVs over the many potholes littering our roads, do all the members of their families have SUVs too? No. In the riverine areas that I visited today, many of the residents there told me that they have children in the universities who have seen how good life can be if all the amenities are available for the people. So, as a leader, you lead by example, if you work for your people with love and empathy. If people see that you are working hard to make their lives better, everybody will fall in line. That's how to keep a hostile, APC-dominated state House of Assembly from frustrating my government."
