Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo is one of the prominent as well as inspiring men that our country Nigeria is blessed with. He is one of the back bones of the country as he is one of the amazing men who put in great effort to see that the society we live in keeps getting better. He is a political and military leader, former president of Nigeria and former head of state.
In today's article, we are going to go over a major achievement of his that Nigeria is indeed grateful for.
During the Obasanjo's administration, he sought to eradicate as well as alleviate poverty, ruduce government corruption and create a better democratic system. His administration was a very diplomatic one and he was very passionate about dealing with the issue of dept. He made way for Nigeria to negotiate for debt relief from her creditors, and thus, Nigeria received an entire dept relive resulting to 18 billion dollars. In 1999, he called on the western world to help us sustain democracy by sharing with us the burden of dept.
His aim and objective was to reduce or completely frown at the mismanagement of of borrowed funds, ensure that money borrowed are used wisely and accounted for. He was actually successful in curbing the issue of dept, however, subsequent leaders didn't go in the way he had planned.
There is no doubt that Obasanjo made a lot of mistakes and he had quite a lot of criticism, but I believe proper implementation of his agenda would have turned out great for all of us, for he was indeed a confident man who is not at all afraid to say what's on his mind.
