Insecurity: Buhari issues marching order to security chiefs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a marching order to security chiefs to tackle the challenges of insecurity in the North West.

This was disclosed by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu when security chiefs paid a visit to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello at his palace in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Thursday.

He said Buhari dispatched top security chiefs to interface with stakeholders in Zamfara on the lingering security challenges in the North West, NAN reports.

Adamu said: “We are sent to Gusau today by President Muhammad Buhari as part of his concern on security challenges in Zamfara and North West in general.

“Mr President gave us a matching order to stop the current insecurity in this region.

“He directed us to come and talk to the stakeholders and identify the remaining challenges that have not been taken care of.

“We need to strategize our efforts in addressing banditry, kidnapping and other forms of crimes in this zone.

“We hope during the close door meeting with stakeholders, we will be able to discuss the remaining challenges.

“During the close door, we are going to discuss several issues concerning security issues in the state and North West in general with a view to have a general solution.”

Boko Haram: Why 602 ex-terrorists swore oath - Nigerian military.

The Nigerian military on Thursday explained why 602 repentant Boko Haram members swore oath of allegiance to Nigeria.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, spoke at a news conference in Abuja.

He recalled that the former insurgents underwent De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation and Re-Integration (DRR) programme by Operation SAFE CORRIDOR.

Enenche said they completed DRR programme at Malam Sidi Camp and took the Oath before an 11 member quasi-judicial panel.

The senior officer said the “reason behind the Oath of Allegiance is to emphasize their loyalty, discipline and obedience to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and thereby making a commitment”.

The implication, he noted, was that if they commit any offence, they will forfeit “all privileges and will be liable for offence against the State”.

Enenche added that Operation SAFE CORRIDOR “has successfully coordinated the DRR programme for 882 ex Boko Haram members including the 280 earlier graduated”.

“The message here is clear to others out there; surrender and be profiled accordingly for the DRR privilege,” he said.

Ondo Guber: Ekweremadu optimistic PDP will defeat APC, gives reasons.

Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State.

Ekweremadu anchored his remark on the fact that PDP has resolved its internal issues in the state, ahead of the election.

He stated that the party was ready to regain power from the APC.

Addressing reporters in Akure while monitoring election of national delegates from 18 local government areas of the state, the Enugu Senator disclosed that the party’s protest over the alleged three-man ad-hoc delegates list has been sorted out.

He assured that the primary election in the state would hold as scheduled – on July 22.

He said: “The issue of the three-man delegate election has even been resolved. There were some complaints and I am happy those complaints have been resolved. The July 22 date for the PDP primaries in Ondo is still sacrosanct.

“You can see the delegate election was free and fair.

“They are now ready to get power back in the state. I am happy efforts have been made to keep our party in shape. We made our progress as a party in the state after losing power four years ago.”

Akpabio vs Nunieh: Nigerians hail Wike for rescuing Ex-NDDC DG.

Some Nigerians have reacted to the rescue of Joy Nunieh, a former Director-General of the Niger Delta Development Commission from police officers by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Some police officers had in the early hours of Thursday invaded Nunieh’s residence in Port Harcourt.

But Wike had stormed the residence of the former NDDC boss and took her away.

Akpabio, however, denied all the allegations leveled against him by the former NDDC MD.

However, Nigerians who expressed their opinion commended Wike for coming to Nunieh’s rescue following reports of police invasion of her residence.

Tweets gathered by some Nigerians in response to Wike’s action read below:

@SodiqTade: “I’m not surprised about the whole drama though. That is why this country is Nigeria. She must have been expecting the intimidation as well. Just that Akpabio picked the wrong location. He should have known Wike to be a no nonsense man. For that Niger Delta, Wike is the war.”

@PHCinpictures: “Whatever you do in this life. Never ever mess with a Governor who carries cutlass.

“Wike just rescued former NDDC MD, Joy Nunieh to Government house, Port Harcourt, Rivers State after Nigerian Police raided her house around 4.00am.”

@DeeOneAyekooto: “Wike did a similar thing when some years back, the DSS stormed the home of judges. He resisted them in Port Harcourt. IGP claimed it didn’t order Magu’s arrest, so who did? People are just behaving like there’s no one in charge of the country.”

@supergirlwcw: “A friend in need is a friend indeed. Rivers People will not be intimidated never! This is who Wike is. If he stands by you, he stands unwavering till the end. I love my Governor. Joi Nunieh fear not! Joi Nunieh is now on her way to Abuja. AkpabioThumbs down.”

@ayemojubar: “NDDC, Akpabio, Joi Nunieh: We are not only in the midst of a pandemic, we are also at the center of heistdemic, scamdenic and hushdemic at every angle under Buhari’s watch.

“Nigeria, where is your president? We can’t continue with this insensitivity for the next 3 years.”
