3 Politicians That Contested For Governorship Election Twice But Lost To Their Opponents (Photos)

In every election, there must be a winner and losers. Some losers still make attempts to run for the positions in which they lost

Certainly, not every politician who recontested have the opportunity to be elected into office.

Let us take a look at three Influential Nigerian politicians who contested for the Governors of their states twice but lost to their opponents.

1. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu :

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He contested under the platform of the APC in the 2020 Edo State Governorship election but lost to the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki of the People's Democratic Party.

In 2016, the two political gladiators also contested for the same position. Then, Pastor Ize-Iyamu who was the candidate of the People's Democratic Party was defeated by APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki.

Godwin Obaseki later defected to the People's Democratic Party when he could not get the All Progressive Congress ticket to contest the Edo State governorship election last year.

2. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN)

Eyitayo Jegede is a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party was defeated in the 2016 Ondo State governorship election by a fellow Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress.

In 2020, Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party. Eyitayo Jegede later challenged the results of the election but the Supreme Court held that Rotimi Akeredolu is the winner of the election.

3. Great Ovedje Ogboru :

Great Ogboru has not only contested the Delta state Governorship election twice but at four times and he lost in all attempts.

The astute businessman has been contesting the Delta State Governorship election since 2003 and has always been defeated.
