National Assembly Summons Finance Minister, Central Bank Governor Over Customs’ Project Stalled Since 2017
The House of Representatives on Thursday mandated its Committee on Customs and Excise; Finance; Banking and Currency to invite Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; Controller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.); and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, over the controversy surrounding the e-Customs project.
The committee was also asked to invite the Chairman of the CBN Technical Committee on Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme, and the Managing Director of Adani Mega Systems Ltd “in order to resolve the matter for the take-off of the project.”
The panel was given a period of four weeks to report back to the House.
Anambra: Police deploy 34,587 operatives for governorship election
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, said on Thursday in Abuja that 34,587 operatives would be deployed to Anambra for the state’s 6 November governorship election.
Mr Baba made the declaration at a meeting with police officers from the rank of Commissioner and above.
He said the deployment would consist of conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force, the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Forces, Explosive Ordnance Unit, Force Intelligence Bureau, INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit and a medical team.
He said three helicopters would be deployed for aerial surveillance while detachments of Marine Police operatives would also be deployed to ensure safe, secure and credible electoral process.
Kwara sacks waste contractors over poor performance
Kwara State Government on Thursday, sacked the State Social Waste Contractors over poor performance.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mrs Remilekun Oluwatobi Banigbe, announced the sack in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday.
“The Kwara state government hereby announces the termination of the Social Waste Contractors due to their inability to meet the relevant service level agreements,” the statement added.
The Commissioner said the well being of the good people of the state remained paramount to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, hence the administration will leave no stone unturned to ensure a more hygienic environment for all and sundry.
We Have A VP Who Is A Huge Bridge Builder – Fayemi
Governor of Ekiti state and Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a bridge builder and a leader worthy of emulation.
He said this when Osinbajo featured as special guest of honour at the First Ekiti State Economic Development and Investment Summit.
According to him, “we have for a VP someone who is a huge bridge builder,” noting Prof. Osinbajo’s ability to bring governors representing States and the FG together on the major issues.
The Governor, during his address at the Summit, said the Vice President has used his office and leadership capabilities to develop a bipartisan approach to administration and implementation of the Economic Sustainability Plan which led the nation out of the pandemic induced recession.
