The next general election in the country will be coming up by 2023. Though it still looks far, political parties and even politicians are doing the necessary and strategic planning to become victorious in whichever political position they seek to occupy.
Hence, any political mistake that is made now may cause a political party or a politician the chance to achieve victory at the polls in 2023. As such, political parties and politicians must avoid situations that could hinder their victory in 2023.
That being said, a recent media report has given an insight into the recent crisis rocking the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party. Some party members in the state are currently aggrieved and annoyed at the way Governor Seyi Makinde is unconcerned about the whole issue.
The crisis rocking Oyo State PDP was disclosed by Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, a chieftain of the party in the state during a media chat with Vanguard Newspapers. According to Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, Governor Seyi Makinde who is also the party leader in the state is makimg a costly mistake by not being interested in genuine reconciliation of all the aggrieved members. The party chieftain also disclosed how the governor excluded him and other party members from the caucus meeting held at the government house. Photo Credit: Google
Hence, whenever an internal crisis of this nature rocks a political party, it is obvious that the next thing that will come on board is the emergence of factional members who will begin to have parallel party meetings and even parallel party elections. As such, if this whole internal crisis affecting Oyo state PDP is not addressed immediately, this will surely affect the chances of the party in 2023.
Governor Makinde should understand that dialogue has always proved very effective in resolving internal party crises, as the party leader in the state, he should call on all aggrieved members and listen to their requests which is a positive step that will ensure the victory of the party in 2023.
