Buhari approves grant for Senior Citizens

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N2.5 billion as a take-off grant for the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC).

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq, made this known on Thursday at a one-day Southern Zone Stakeholders Consultation on the Development of NSCC Strategic Plan in Lagos, NAN reports.

Farouq, who was represented by Mr Mansur Kuliya, the ministry’s acting Director, Social Services, said that the grant was presently being processed for disbursement to the centre.

She noted the grant would be used to identify the strategic priorities, processes and approaches that would provide an impetus for the centre to achieve its mandate of integrating senior citizens.

The minister said that the centre was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to brainstorm and produce ideas for the development of a 10 years strategic plan.

Ahead of the next month’s governorship election in Anambra State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has vowed not to engage the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN.

INEC’s spokesman, Festus Okoye, said IPOB and ESN would not be engaged because they have been proscribed by the Federal Government.

Featuring on Arise TV on Thursday, Okoye noted that the commission would engage other stakeholders like security agencies, civil society organizations, but not IPOB and ESN.

The governorship election in Anambra State is scheduled to hold on November 6, 2021.

Nigerian Army confirms ISWAP leader, Al-Barnawi’s death

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Lucky Irabor has confirmed that the vicious leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi has been killed.

DAILY POST reports that General Irabor made the revelation while speaking on Thursday during the Ministerial briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“I can authoritatively confirm to you that Abu Musab is dead. As simple as that. He is dead and remains dead,” Irabor said.

ISWAP now chasing Boko Haram to Northwest’ – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has revealed what he described as his biggest fear about Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist group.

El-Rufai said the biggest fear is that Boko Haram members may relocate from the Northeast to the Northwest.

The governor disclosed this at the ‘Fountain Summit’, an event organised by the Ekiti Government on Thursday.

He called for a collaborative effort between the federal, state governments, and Nigerians in combating terrorism.
