It is not really over yet in some state chapters of the All Progressives Congress. The party has issues in two state chapters even though state congresses had been conducted by the party. While the political party anticipates the national convention, two states are seriously battling internal crisis.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, the APC is facing challenges in Zamfara State. The national caretaker committee being led by Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State governor, has suspended the committee that was put in place to conduct ward congresses in the state. The national secretariat suspended the committee led by Mr. Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
Recall that the state governor, Mr. Bello Matawalle, recently joined the All Progressives Congress. And since that time, the APC crisis in Zamfara State has deepened. There are several factions and this led to the suspension of the ward congress exercise. Apart from that, the Zamfara State chapter of the APC couldn't present candidates for 2019 elections.
The similar problem is now presenting itself. There won't be any ward congresses for now based on the decision of the national secretariat of the party. Whereas the APC is preparing for its national convention. Former governor Abdulaziz Yari and other top stalwarts couldn't help the matter.
All is not well with the APC in Oyo State as well. Oyo is the only state that is not under the party in the southwest geopolitical zone. While others (Lagos, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo and Ogun) are under the APC, Oyo State is under the PDP. Yet the Oyo State chapter of the APC is facing crisis.
The state chapter of the party was summoned to a powerful meeting in Abuja. The aim was to discuss the state executive congress. Of course, there was an exercise at the popular Liberty Stadium in Ibadan. But a section or faction of the party rejected the congress on the ground that it was invalid.
The congress produced a former commissioner in the state, Honourable Isaac Omodewu, as the chairman of the APC in the state. Whereas top stalwarts rejected the exercise. And this made the caretaker committee (at the national level) to summon the top echelons to a meeting.
Of course, the meeting was duly attended. But there was no resolution yet except that the caretaker committee gave them just one week to settle the matter and reach an agreement. The chieftains of the party (Former Governor Christopher Alao Akala, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Senator Teslim Folarin, Mr. Sunday Dare) need just one week to put the APC in order in Oyo State.
