The meeting between Mr Tunde Bakare and President Muhammadu Buhari should be the beginning of Bakare's moves towards achieving his ambition. He can visit two other top politicians as he continues to struggle for the top seat in the country.
Mr. Tunde Bakare has indicated that he would contest for the seat of the president. He gave a condition that he would run for the office if God and Nigerians want him to lead them. Meanwhile, he won't be able to get closer to the seat without winning the ticket of a major party.
At the same time, he may not be able to use any other political party apart from the All Progressives Congress. He is much closer to the ruling party than any other party. Hence, the politicians he would visit must be in the All Progressives Congress.
Mr. Bakare should understand that north is too powerful to overlook. Hence, he should meet the Kaduna State governor, Mr. Nasir El-Rufai. There isn't much to talk about if he visits the governor. But their meeting would go a long way to help the popular cleric, who is also into politics.
Mr. Bakare should explain his ambition with Nasir El-Rufai and demand the support of the top governor. Although El-Rufai alone may not be able to push the candidacy of Bakare, the Kaduna State governor would surely help the pastor. Even Bakare can go as far as having a deal with El-Rufai.
Tinubu has apparently made a strong relationship with Mr. Umar Ganduje. Bakare may not be able to disrupt the cordial relationship between them. But he can upset or stop Tinubu if he utilises the Kaduna State governor who understands politics a lot.
The second top politician he needs to meet is Mr. Tanko Al-Makura, a former Nassarawa State governor. One may wonder how all these things concern the former governor of the north central state. Al-Makura is a potential candidate for the APC chairmanship.
Bakare needs to start making moves that can clear the ways for him ahead of the APC primary poll. If he can just work with Al-Makura and rbe northern politician becomes the APC chairman, he won't forget Bakare when the APC is about to choose its flag bearer.
