As the All Progressive Congress, Ondo State Chapter, counts down to the conduct of her Primaries on the 20th of July, 2020, the incumbent governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN is being confronted with series of obstacles - from withing and without.
The resignation of his deputy has dealt a stiff blow on his ambition to run for second terms. Sources close to the government house hinted that in days to come, the mystery surrounding the resignation of his deputy will be revealed. A close aide to the governor hinted that there are series of communications and video recordings indicting the former deputy governor. As we wait to unfold the fog the former deputy governor's resignation, Akeredolu SAN remains dogged in actualizing his ambition.
There have been concerns raised by political analyst as to the role Akeredolu played in the last general election which saw the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have the majority votes in Ondo State (an APC State). This angered stakeholders within APC who moved for the suspension of Akeredolu SAN. Fortunately, Akeredolu survived the 'coup'
Upon obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form, Akeredolu SAN, paid a courtesy visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa. Akeredolu, appreciated the President for his support to the good people of Ondo State. He also hinted how he admired the way President Muhammadu Buhari was piloting the affairs of the Country. After which he made known, officially, to the President his interest to to run for a second term.
President Buhari, beaming with smiles after hearing Akeredolu SAN speak, responded by saying, 'Certainly, I wish you the best of luck'. This was captured in a Video by the governor's media team.
Reports have it that President Buhari has a soft spot for Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as against Tinubu's indifference to Akeredolus emergence as the flag carrying member of APC in the 2020 gubernatorial election in Ondo State. Apparently, no one came be sure until the result of the Primary Election come 20th July, 2020.
