Till now, the rate of unemployment keep increasing on daily basis majorly due to the age limit for job seekers in the country.
As a result of this, vibrant Nigerian youths have been facing challenges of unemployment, and the issue keep rising everyday as well as becoming the major talk and economic issue in Nigeria.
Many Nigerians especially the faithful ones have been finding it difficult to apply for job openings in Nigeria as a result of age limits, which most times serve as the major embargoes placed on Nigerian youths who might want to show interest in some empowerment opportunities, resulting in high rate of unemployment in Nigeria. Many have been searching for jobs for some years till date because their age have passed the age limits required for the jobs they want to apply for.
The good news now is that yesterday 15th of July 2020, the Senate has urged Nigeria President, President Muhammadu Buhari to kindly look into the rampant issue of unemployment in the country as many job seekers have been finding it difficult to apply for some jobs in Nigeria as a result of age limits, which is one of the major problems that led to the present daily increase in the numbers of unemployed Nigerians (both among the graduates and non graduates).
They further stressed that one of the major reasons to the high rate of crimes and other related criminal activities in Nigeria were resulted from age limits and nonavailability of jobs.
Hence, the Senate is requesting for the removal of "age limits" by Recruitment Agencies and Ministries in order to enable unemployed Nigerians to be gainfully employed into some positions.
The motion was sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Gobir to ensure that competent applicants are employed regardless of their age by the ministries, departments and agencies of government.
And the decision has been taken by the upper chamber after this motion, asking the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity to set up a Committee in order to review the age limit for job seekers.
What a very good motion! To relieve some Nigerian graduates who have passed the prescribed age limits since many years ago.
