Former kwara state governor left N67million debt in Water corporation.

The attention of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations (AUPCTRE), Kwara State Water Corporation Branch has been drawn to the claim by former Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed through his media aide that the immediate past administration was up to date in payment of Salaries and all that is due to civil servants in the State.

To this end the Unions wish to reiterate that the claims by the former Governor Ahmed through his aide Dr. Muhideen Akorede was false and misleading. The Staff of Kwara State Water Corporation were owed to the tune of Sixty-Seven Million Naira (N67million) as highlighted below:

50% April 2019 Salary for Staff of the Corporation (N6.7million)

October 2015 Salary Arrears of 89staff of the Corporation (N2.1million)

August 2015 Salary of 7 Staff (N128,000)

Unremitted Cooperative Deductions (N37.8million)

Unremitted 55months National Housing Funds Deductions (N5.6million)

Salary Increment Arrears for Senior Staffs (N1.8million)

Step Increment Arrears (N367,000)

Unremitted Union Dues Deductions (N1.8million)

2015 Leave Bonus for Staff of the Corporation (N4.5million)

Implementation of Promotion Financial Benefits (N6.2million)

No Promotion for Staffs of the Corporation for 9years

It would be recalled that failure of the immediate past administration to pay these outstanding salaries and dues led to the industrial action embarked upon by the Staff of the Corporation in April, 2019.

The gates of the 96 Waterworks in the state were under lock and key when Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was sworn into office.

On the 4th of June, 2019, the Union deemed it necessary to suspend the industrial strike in appreciation of Gov. AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman’s visits to Agba-Dam and Asa-Dam Waterworks immediately he assumed office, to see things himself, with promise to settle all the outstanding issues and bring back the lost glory of Kwara State Water Corporation. We never experience this type of august visit during the 8years of AbdulFatai Ahmed’s Administration.

It is noteworthy to say that Governor AbdulRazaq has paid about 95% of these outstandings, within his seven months in office. The only outstanding yet to be paid is the 50% April, 2019 salary, and we have been assured of getting it very soon by His Excellency.

Similarly, Governor Abdulrazaq has approved the renovation of some of our Waterworks across the three Geopolitical Zones, and he has also paid out of the accrued debts the Corporation owned IBEDC. In addition, we now get prompt supply of chemicals used for treating waters.

The general public should consider the claim by the former Governor as not only misleading but falsely. Share like and comment if you think this is false.
