One Political Deal Atiku Can Make With Iyorchia Ayu Ahead Of PDP Convention

The north central caucus of the PDP had come up with a conclusion to field Mr. Iyorchia Ayu as the consensus candidate for the PDP convention. The Benue State governor made this known as preparation increases for the race. The anointed candidate can now meet Atiku Abubakar for a deal.

The former vice president, Atiku, has initially rejected the choice of Mr. David Mark. The reason was that Mark was considered as a highly disciplined man who won't allow rancour. And Mr. Bukola Saraki reportedly oppoosed the candidacy of Mark for the job.

Of course, it is clear that ambitious politicians from north would definitely prefer a candidate from north central zone. Mr. Aminu Tambuwal and Atiku must have considered their chances. And they would have concluded that their hope would be alive if the chairman is from north center.

Now that the north central zone has talked, Mr. Atiku Abubakar should simply invite Mr. Iyorchia Ayu for a talk which would involve on two basic things. The first one would be on the current matter of the PDP convention. And the second matter would deal with 2023 presidential election. That is if Atiku is still interested.

Atiku Abubakar ran on the platform of the PDP in 2019 in order to democratically wrest power from Muhammadu Buhari. He was in the race for the PDP ticket along with Saraki and Tambuwal. He defeated the two men. And Atiku may want to try his luck for another time.

Note that he won the ticket of the PDP on a very tough note. He struggled so hard for it because the leadership of the PDP under Uche Secondus preferred another candidate for the ticket. But Atiku Abubakar outsmarted them. He needs to avoid any potential national chairman who doesn't share from his vision.

Atiku needs to come out clean to the north central anointed candidate, Iyorchia Ayu. The former vice president should tell Ayu what he wants which is the ticket of the PDP. Of course, Mr. Ayu must be ready for the PDP job and he knows that his struggle would be simpler if he can secure Atiku Abubakar's support.

Abubakar should specifically demand that he wants the support of Iyorchia Ayu during the race or struggle for the PDP ticket next year. The PDP would conduct its primary next year so as to get ready for 2023 presidential election. And if Atiku is still interested in the seat, he should tell Ayu.

And in return, the former vice president would mobilise his teeming supporters in the PDP to throw their weight behind Mr. Ayu. Hence, Atiku should make the deal with the top politician from Benue State.
