According to PunchNews, Niger State, All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Haliru Zakari Jikantoro has been suspended for reportedly voting for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in last Saturday's presidential election.
Jikantoro reportedly backed Atiku over his party's presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
In a letter from the chairman and secretary of the Kashini community in Agwara Municipality of the state, Amadu Abdullahi Yagode and Nurudeen Abdullahi, supported by the community's 21 party officials, the party accused Zakari of voting for Atiku.
The letter reads;
This suspension was expediently brought about as a result of the flagrant violation and disregard of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress by Hon.Haliru Zakari Jikantoro, Chairman of the State Party of the APC, coupled with some of Hon.Haliru counting on our party's success during the just-concluded to undermine the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections conducted on February 25, 2023.
It is on record that Hon.Haliru Zakari Jikantoro has indulged in anti-party activities by collecting votes for the People Democratic Party for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
No wonder the Hon.Haliru has never consulted or convened a meeting of the Ward Executives or the Local Government Executive to learn the level of preparation for the upcoming election. On the contrary, Hon.Haliru used the funds to fund PDP campaigns and mobilize pro-PDP votes in the Agwara Local Government.
Furthermore, during the general election on February 25, 2023, in Hon.Haliru's election at Central Primary School Kashini Ward Agwara Local Government Area Niger State, he voted and collected votes for the Peoples Democratic Party on the ballots that made up the reason, why the APC did not win said voting unit.
