There is a possibility that Mr. Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Aminu Tambuwal may clash over the PDP convention. The two political giants have their own different and specific ambitions which may clash. The two top leaders would struggle to let their own interest prevail in the political system.
The political party has already concluded plans to let the northern region take the chairman's seat. The decision is based on the fact that the last chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, is from southern region and in order to balance the power equation, the party decided to zone the seat to north.
Clash would start when the two leaders want to choose someone who is loyal to them so as to prepare a soft ground for them ahead of the 2023 general elections. Note that Atiku Abubakar would want to have someone who is loyal to him and at the same time, Mr. Atiku wouldn't want the northeastern region to take the opportunity.
The PDP is a bit popular in the northeastern zone and the party may want to go there to pick the national chairman. The PDP controls three states in the region (Bauchi, Adamawa and Taraba). But if the PDP goes ahead with choosing the chairman from the zone, the political ambition of Atiku may suffer some setback.
Whereas Mr. Aminu Tambuwal would want to stop Atiku Abubakar. The two men faced each other in the last presidential primary election of the party. Tambuwal came second while Atiku flew the flag of the party. And Tambuwal knows that in order to stop Atiku, he needs to support a politician from the northeastern region. It won't be possible for the zone to take both the presidential ticket and the chairman's seat.
At the same time, Mr. Atiku Abubakar would centre his focus on the northwest, he will want to pick his own preferred candidate there. He must have been convinced that Tambuwal is a strong politician who can challenge the former vice president. And Atiku can take the step to stop the Sokoto State governor.
Hence, the two men would clash and they may not even agree with each other because each if them will definitely have their own candidate for the job. And there would be a clash between them.
In order to prevent the clash, it is advisable for them to go to the north center and pick a consensus candidate from the zone. If they do that, both Atiku and Tambuwal would have a clear road ahead of 2023 general elections.
