The All Progressive Congress (APC) could be stronger than the opposition party in the year twenty twenty-three presidential election. The 2023 general election is approaching, and people are expecting the opposition to challenge the power of the ruling party in the forthcoming presidential election. Contrary to other people's opinions, the All Progressive Congress (APC) could still be stronger than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the year 2023 based on two factors that will be highlighted in this article.

The previous presidential election was in the favour of the ruling party as President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were able to secure their second term tenure after defeating Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi on the opposition party's side. What happened in the previous general election can still repeat itself in the year 2023 and the ruling party can be stronger than the opposition party based on these factors.

Northerners' Voting Strength

The leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have been dominating the northern part of the country as the party is the one controlling most of the states in the northern region of the country compared to the states that the opposition party is controlling. The voting strength of the northerners is the strongest in the country because most of the votes that are produced in Nigerian elections are from the northern part of the country.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has captured most of the major stronghold states in the northern part of the country, and it will be of benefit for the ruling party in the year 2023 presidential election. The opposition party has to struggle if it will be able to face the ruling party in the northern part of the country in the year 2023.

Defection

Another reason why the ruling party may be stronger than the opposition party is the defection factor in the opposition party. Some prominent political stalwarts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC). The consequence of their defections to the opposition party will be that the strength of the party will be reduced in some areas because those politicians who have left the party have people that they are controlling, and it will further strengthen the power of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Benedict Ayade of Cross Rivers State, Bello Matawalle and Chief Femi Fani-Kayode are among those who have vacated the party. The opposition party needs to do a lot of work before it can make it up to challenge the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the year 2023 presidential election.
