For the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, it wants to do everything possible to retain power at the federal level. On the other hand, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP wants to leave no stone unturned in its quest to beat APC and take over power. With this, the stage is set for an epic political clash in 2023 presidential election. But, the battle is not just won by doing one thing, wise political strategies can help a party to win the contest. This article discusses how Wike and PDP Governors plan to counter APC by taking some key political decisions ahead of the 2023 crucial contest.

One, Wike and PDP Governors decided to zone the post of National Chairman to the North. This is a smart move to counter the APC. It will help the PDP to capture the North and get the backing of the zone. The top Northern politician that will emerge the PDP National Chairman will like to impress his party members by mobilizing them and convincing them to massively vote for PDP to win the presidential election. Apart from this, Wike and PDP Governors used that decision to counter the ruling APC which is also planning to do the same thing by zoning its National Chairman to the North.

Just like Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who left the post of the National Chairman of APC, PDP's outgoing National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus is from the South. The main goal of Wike and the PDP is to allow power shift within the party by allowing the post to go to the North. In APC, all the top contenders for the post of the party's National Chairman are Northerners. With this decision made by Wike and PDP Governors, PDP would counter APC's move.

Second, that decision by Wike and the PDP Governors will lead to the zoning of PDP's presidential ticket to the South. Already, APC is planning to zone its presidential ticket to the South ahead of 2023 presidential election. This is in line with power shift principle and popular demand since President Muhammadu Buhari is from the North. He would be completing his second term in 2023 and power should shift to the South. Wike and PDP Governors decided to allow North to take the post of PDP National Chairman so that the presidential ticket will go to the South to counter APC.

Another thing Wike and PDP Governors are planning to do is to find ways to placate the North so that he region will accept these decisions and back them massively. This will come in terms of other key positions in the party and other appointments when the election has been won. But, the two key decisions discussed above are wise moves by Wike and PDP Governors to counter the ruling APC ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.
