The newly deployed Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji has revealed that for the Gubernatorial and General Elections in Osun State to be a success, there is an urgent need for a collaboration between INEC and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This is as he noted that the role of the NYSC in the electoral processes cannot be neglected as its involvement has brought about sanity to the system even as the members of the scheme are a key stakeholder in the electioneering process.
Raji stressed that his visit to the Osun NYSC was both strategic and necessary so as to consolidate the budding relationship that has always existed between the Commission and the NYSC.
While appreciating the NYSC for their efforts in mobilising credible Corps members in the registration and election processes, Raji charged the corps members to be more involved in the process of selecting appropriate leaders for the country.
On his part, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Ayodele Adegoke assured that the NYSC will continue to do its best towards guaranteeing free and fair elections in the state.
Adegoke added that the NYSC will abide by all that has been stated in the scheme's Memorandum of Understanding with the Commission.
He however pleaded with INEC to give all corps members that will be participating in the Gubernatorial and General Elections their due entitlements whilst placing premium on their security and welfare.
