The agitation for the return of presidential power to the Southern part of Nigeria may play a major role in the course of choosing the presidential candidates of various political parties, ahead of the 2023 General Elections.

However, the continued agitation for the returning of presidential position to the Southern part of Nigeria may hinder the chance of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from emerging as the presidential candidate of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

One, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a prominent politician from Bayelsa State. He was the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2010 and 2015. Former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar may support him to develop interest in the 2023 presidential contest and, eventually, emerge as presidential candidate of the opposition party.
Interestingly, former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a popular politician whose political connections could be considered to have roots across all the 36 state of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The political influence added by Peter Obi when he was contesting the 2019 presidential election, as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, may assist him to maximise the chances of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 General Elections.
