The gale of defection has brought the People Democratic Party (PDP) to a standstill. As people issued in their opinion regarding what may likely be the reason behind the act, Mr Doyin Okupe, a former Presidential Spokesperson, has also expressed concerning towards the over-flowing rete of defection in the party, thereby, expressing fear that the party could collapse before 2023 if the gale of defection continued.

Mr Okupe made known that the rainy amount of defections in the party is not situated on crisis, stating that it is happening because the general election day is approaching.
However Mr Doyin Okupe disclosed one major reason behind the gale of defection in the party, which he claimed that the zoning arrangement of the party to present a northern candidate for the 2023 poll is behind the rainy defection in the party, therefore warning the leadership of the People Democratic Party (PDP) against presenting a northern candidate for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential election to avoid another major defeat.

While speaking during an interview with some groups of journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Mr Okupe said the PDP may encounter another major defeat in 2023 if it present a northern candidate as its flag-bearer for the election.
Mr Doyin Okupe in his conclusion, urged that the zoning arrangement in the PDP ended with the 2019 presidential election, stressing that some people within the party, who are insisting on presenting a northern candidate for the 2023 poll should put the act aside.
