On the 5th of May, 2020, The Nigerian Air Force winged another female combat helicopter pilot.
8 months after the first female fighter pilot, Flying Officer Kafayat Sani and the first female combat helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile were winged, The Nigerian Air Force winged its second female combat helicopter pilot and her name is Chinelo Nwokoye.
Chinelo Nwokoye who hails from Anambra state, was winged with 11 other male pilots in Abuja on the 5th of May, 2020 in a low - key ceremony held at the Nigerian Air Force Headquaters, Abuja.
During the ceremony, the chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said in his speech that " the event was remarkable because Nigerian Air Force now have a second female helicopter pilot.
He also added that the young pilots met the criteria for the award of the prestigous Nigerian Air Force flying wings.
Flying Officer Chinelo Nwokoye, the second female helicopter pilot, at induction was expected to contribute to the effort of the other female pilots who were in operation in the country to defend her fatherland.
According to the chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, between 2015 and 2020, 114 pilots including five females have been winged and 26 others are undergoing training.
He also added that Nwokoye and the others completed their flying training both in Nigeria and abroad for nine months.
