'Why INEC Chairman Might Be Jailed For Treason In The Next Couple Of Years' - Segun Adebanjo

The Director General of the Labour Party Governorship campaign council, Segun Adebanjo has made a huge claim that the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu could be jailed for high treason in the next couple of years after his conduct in the 2023 Presidential election. The Labour Party Lagos Campaign DG stated that what they saw in Lagos State Presidential election was a broad daylight robbery of where Labour party votes were purposeful taken out by the electoral commission.

He stated that Nigerians won't have seen the real results of the election if INEC had transmitted the results on their IReV portal. He alleged that it was clear sabotage on the part of the INEC chairman. He argued that the case is quite sensitive because the Chairman promised to transmit the results and all of a sudden, he refused to transmit as he assured Nigerians. According to him, the INEC Chairman's action could have caused a breakdown of order across the nation.

He said, ''I do expect that the INEC Chairman might be jailed for high treason in the next couple of years. And this is because the commission betrayed their Nation. I chose my words deliberately when I said high treason, the law itself combined with INEC guidelines requires that the results will be transmitted electronically. And a lot of Nigerians had put their faith on that.

And that fundamentally holds our Nation together, you put these processes in place in order for people to affect peaceful change. If you frustrate that, you give people a reason to break the law. When you betray that and which they did unilaterally, they have no excuse for it. They cannot decide against the law and put the whole nation at risk. Including whoever wins on a process that is flawed like that, you undermine their own legitimacy. And that is why I said it is high treason for the INEC Chairman.''
