A consensus candidate is an aspirant that is generally accepted by members of the political party. When a leader or candidate is picked through consensus, there is no more need for the position he is vying for to be contested by others.

People's Democratic Party can truly pick their Presidential candidate through consensus if all the six geo-political zones agree with the position of the leadership of the party.

Having a consensus candidate in 2023 will also help to reduce infighting that might emerge after a primary election.

People's Democratic Party can explore consensus for Presidential candidates judging by the last national convention where the Chairman and most of the positions were through consensus.

The newly-elected National Chairman of the Party emerged through a consensus and all the party chieftains supported his victory. This can also be achieved if they allow consensus in electing the presidential candidate of the party in 2023.
