The 2023 presidential election is fast approaching and it appears that some Northern politicians are ready to support that the next President of Nigeria should come from the South.
Although the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has not zoned its presidential ticket, some Southern politicians who are interested in the race have started showing interest.
Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio who is a top Minister in President Buhari's government is in the minds of some Northern politicians. They plan to settle for him as their 2023 presidential candidate according to ThisDay newspaper.
Why do Northern Power Brokers plan to support Akpabio who is from the South-South for the 2023 Presidency?

1) He is a detribalized Nigeria
Mr. Jubril Tafida who is the convener of Senator GodsWill Akpabio For Common Good(SGACG) believes that Akpabio has demonstrated that he is a detribalized Nigeria by funding the education of many Nigerians both home and abroad irrespective of their tribe and religion.
The fact remains that Northern Nigeria believes in the unity of Nigeria and is against any plot that will disintegrate it.
They have shown that by planning to settle for Akpabio who has shown them that he can unite the country in his little capacity.
2) He has a cordial relationship with North and is a performer
Those who followed political developments in Akwa Ibom state between 2007 and 2015 will agree with me that Akpabio worked for his people as Governor.
He built a world-class hospital and the popular La Meridien Hotel in Uyo.

That earned him the title of uncommon Governor.
Also, he demonstrated that he has a cordial relationship with the North when he joined the APC in 2018 and supported President Buhari who is from Katsina to win his second term as President.

All these have endeared him to Northern politicians who want him to become President of Nigeria in 2023.
