Check out the former president of South Africa who was sentenced to jail

The former president of South Africa was on tuesday, 29th June 2021 ordered to spend 15months in jail after he failed to appear before the inquiry into the numerous scandals during his tenure as a president. The former president of South Africa is named Jacob Zuma. He was sentenced by Judge Sisi Khampepe who was the acting chief justice. According to the court, former president Jacob Zuma is to surrender to the police within five days. He was found guilty of contempt and he is also facing charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering in connection with the purchase of warplanes.

Another striking thing is that the former president Jacob Zuma denied all the charges laid against him and he went further to accuse the deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo of harbouring a personal grudge against him. Raymond Zondo was the head of the inquiry.

The investigations that was Carried out on Jacob Zuma is part of the current presidents drive to uproot corruption in South Africa's government. The current president of South Africa named Cyril Ramaphosa served as deputy to Jacob Zuma when he was the president of South Africa. By this act of Ramaphosa, corruption would be erased from South Africa's government.
