Opinion: Three reasons why Atiku should defect to the APC

It is no secrete that former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar still dreams of becoming the President of Nigeria. He is reportedly making subtle efforts and putting structures in place for the much talked about 2023 presidential election.

Here in this piece, I like to offer a candid advice to the former number two citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Some people may see my advice as misplaced or mischievous. But that's their opinion which they are entitled to. And I'm entitled to mine.

My advice to the Waziri of Adamawa, Alhaji Abubakar is to dump the PDP and pitch his tent with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. There are several reasons why he should do so. In the following lines, I present three reasons why Atiku should join the APC.

First reason:

I strongly hold that it is very very unlikely that the PDP will give Mr Atiku their presidential ticket. If that happens, he is going to remain in the opposion. And without the PDP ticket, he would need a miracle to get the presideny.

And, let me state that it will also take a miracle for the APC give him their ticket. But at least he will be in the ruling party and enjoy some sort of privileges especially if he remains loyal.

Second reason:

Being in the ruling party is good for business men like him. To be a bussines man in the opposition is somewhat risky, especially in africa. At least, even if the APC does not give him their ticket, he will likely have his bussiness interest protected.

Third reason:

The PDP is been deserted by so many big politicians. In fact I won't be surprised if more governors of the party joins the APC. It seems the party has lost its relevance as a strong opposion and alternative to the APC. So, I don't know what Atiku can achieve politically under such a weakened PDP, come 2023.

Conclusion

The foregoing are my thoughts about what Atiku should do in his current circumstance. I don't think the politics of 2023 will favour him. The earlier he makes a move, the better for him.
