According to the news published by Punch Newspaper this evening, Hudu-Yunusa Ari, the suspended resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Adamawa State, claims that Aisha Binani Dahiru, the APC's candidate for governor, defeated Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri by more than 6,000 votes in the election.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ari claimed he didn't accept any payment from Binani in exchange for declaring her the victor of the election since he was acting within the bounds of the law, which will also exonerate me in any further legal proceedings.
However, he claimed that APC's Binani defeated Fintiri by more than 6000 votes, and he has no regrets about announcing her as the Governor-elect. Ari also claimed that if he had received any money from any of the candidates before the election, they would have begun demanding it by now because he has failed to do what they want.
"I have no regrets announcing Binani as the next governor-elect," Ari stated after Binani defeated Fintiri by more than 6,000 votes.
I never expected anything in return from Binani or Fintiri, Ari said. No one from the duo sent me anything; if they had by this point, they would be asking for their money back. I don't regret anything since I followed the law; the law authorized what I did and will clear me. Without a doubt, I'll report to the police. There was never a police summons before, but there is one today. I'm about to emerge from hiding.
