As Cross Riverians are yet to come to terms with the reason why the governor of the state, Sir Ben Ayade refused to attend the South-South governors meeting at the government house in Rivers State, the18 Local Government Area Chairmen of the state have traveled to Paris in France for what is allegedly said to be an official assignment on research.
The team who arrived in Paris days ago on an alleged research trip are yet to share pictures of themselves carrying out the research or in a serious meeting, rather Cross River State Social Media Space has been consistently flooded with pictures of leisure and fun.
The alleged research trip by the LG Chairmen has stirred a lot of discussion amongst Cross Riverians with many describing the trip as a waste of public funds, stating that the trip wasn't necessary at this period when the state is going through tough times fiscally.
Recall that some months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja for Paris, France, on a four-day official visit to attend African Finance Summit which will be focused on reviewing the African economy, following shocks from the Coronavirus pandemic, and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries.
The summit drew major stakeholders in the global financial institutions and some Heads of Government, who collectively, discussed external funding and debt treatment for Africa, and private sector reforms.
So Cross Riverians are also expecting the Chairmen to return to Cross River State with resources and knowledge gained from the trip to help bring development in their various LGAs.
Meanwhile, Ayade also went to Paris with some of his House of Assembly members, some Director-Generals, and Commissioners to meet with investors and partners at the Livestock Summit in France.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Badaru, Governor Ikpeazu amongst others are also in France for the summit.
