Mr. Ayodele Fayose may not know that the future of People's Democratic Party hinges on how he properly handles the internal matters of the party in Ekiti State. He can take some steps or do some things which would totally end the dominance of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State.
The People's Democratic Party was defeated in the 2018 governorship election. The PDP couldn't stop the All Progressives Congress from taking over the southwest state. Even the defeat of the PDP was just a part of the national humiliation that the opposition began to suffer since 2015. But Fayose can still help the party to regain its strength and footholds in Ekiti State.
Mr. Fayose needs to first and foremost agree that if the PDP must rise again, he must be ready to offer some sacrifice. This time around, it won't be about money alone. He needs to be ready to compromise and he shouldn't think about himself alone.
The tenure of Mr Kayode Fayemi ends next year and the state would be open for the PDP to grab. It would be a great opportunity for Fayose to end the dominance of the APC in the state once and for all.
The state would soon go to another poll and the party would look forward to it as an avenue to return to power. Mr. Fayose would surely have a candidate of his own choice. But he should understand that the party would have some other persons who will have interest in the ticket of the party.
Mr. Segun Oni has already obtained the nomination form. He will want to rule Ekiti State again. It may happen that the preferred candidate of Fayose isn't chosen. The former governor should be ready to work for anyone who emerges. And if he combines his efforts with the flag bearer of the party, the dominance of the APC would be ended.
Secondly, Mr. Fayose should have a talk with some politicians who used to be in the PDP. The party has lost Mr. Dayo Adeyeye. It is possible for the former powerful PDP leader to return to the PDP. Note that politics remains a game of personal interest. There is nothing bad in begging the former minister to return to the People's Democratic Party ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.
The former governor needs to look for possible ways to break the hegemony of the All Progressives Congress on Ekiti State. If the political party continues to remain formidable ahead of the 2022 state election, the PDP would have to occupy the backseat for the second time in a row.
