How Northern Elite Can Get APC Ticket For 2023 Election

The smartness of the northern elite seems to be second to none. The northern leaders really understand how to outsmart the other region and the political leaders therein. While the southern region politicians are arguing that it's their turn to produce the next president, the northern elite may be making some concrete plans.

Of course, more attention would be on the All Progressives Congress which is the most viable party in the country right now. By being the ruling party, the northern leaders would want to achieve their desire to glue to power by using the APC. The leaders would therefore work to have the ticket.

Actually, the southern governors would do their best to make the party zones the ticket to south. At the end of the day, the northern governors and elite would find their way and clinch the ticket.

The first approach that the northern elite would use is to argue that the political party (APC) is far more acceptable and popular in the region. North has 19 states and the APC controls 14 making 73.6%. The party controls five states in north central (Niger, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, and Nassarawa). The party also has six states in northwest (Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Katsina and Zamfara State). Lastly, the party has influence in Gombe, Borno and Yobe (northeastern part).

Whereas APC isn't prominent at all in the southern region. The party can only boast of the southwest region which isn't enough for negotiation. The People's Democratic Party takes most of the region and there is a high tendency that the people of the region would vote for the PDP.

If this argument isn't tenable, the northerners can insist that the next chairman of the party should come from south. The southerners may say that since the last chairman, Adams Oshiomole, is from south, the next one should come from north. The northern leaders and elite can provide a counterargument.

The northern elite can say that the chairman of the APC caretaker committee has spent close to two years in office. Mai Mala Buni took over in mid 2020. And Oshiomole himself didn't spend up to three years in office. Now, the elite can say that the next chairman should come from south.

If the argument can be proven, the All Progressives Congress would be left with no other choice, but to surrender the ticket for the northern hegemony. The calculation would work and the northerners would smile broadly at last.
