In the month of February, the then Theatre Commander of Operation 'Lafia Dole', Major General Adeniyi Olusegun, in a video briefing to his superiors, state how inferior his men's weapons are, in comparison to the kind of machinery used by insurgents.
He further stated, that the insurgents attacked his men from all flanks, but they were able to repel them. This briefing (that later got leaked to the public), did not go down well with Gen. Adeniyi's superiors, as he was quickly redeployed from the battlefield in Borno State, to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
According to the sunnews.com, apart feom being redeployed, this 'erring' General, will also face a General Court Martial(GCM) and this was stated in the memo, released by the Nigerian Army.
Indeed, not a few suggest that this Court Martial, may be due to the divulging of top battlefield activities, as General Adeniyi did.
However, one question come to mind:
- What happened to the Freedom of Speech, every Nigerian is entitled to?
- Can a Civil Court, interfer in the activities of the General Court Martial?
- Can civilians, petition a military court?
Indeed, many Nigerians are disturbed that if this General Court Martial (with an undisclosed date) holds, many more soldiers may be dissuaded from speaking up against the ills in the Army, and this may not be the best for our Democracy.
Dear Nigerians, what's your take on this issue of national concern?
Should General Adeniyi, be tried in the General Court Martial?
Your comments, help shed light on these issues of national concern.
