Fish out criminal elements in your domain – Governor Sule tells traditional rulers

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has sought for the cooperation of traditional rulers across the state, to assist security agents in fishing out criminal elements in the society.

Engineer Sule made the appeal during a meeting with all graded traditional rulers in the state, Fulani community leaders and security agents in attendance, which held at the Government House, on Wednesday.

The Governor, while underscoring the significant roles traditional rulers play in the society, expressed confidence that with the support of the royal fathers, coupled with their understanding of the society, they will be able to assist security agents fish out those people who are not interested in peace and who engage in criminal activities such as kidnapping and banditry.

Engineer Sule noted that the coming together of the traditional rulers to brainstorm on the important issue of security, is an indication that the administration’s desire to properly place the royal fathers in the society, is coming to fruition.

While describing the royal fathers, who are the custodians of culture, as "agents of peace, unity and progress", the Governor pleaded for more support from the traditional rulers, stressing that with his administration’s thrust in the areas of investment and investors, business will only come into the state if there is peace.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity to show appreciation to the traditional rulers for their continued support in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, urging them to sustain ongoing awareness campaign on the need to observe all WHO protocol to curb further spread of COVID-19.

Earlier, in a remark, Commandant, Nigeria Army Special Forces Doma, Major General Maude Gadzama Ali, urged the traditional rulers and especially Fulani community leaders, to cooperate with security agents in the state posted to ensure lasting peace.

The commandant warned that the special forces will not hesitate to deal with any person found aiding criminal activities, especially with the command’s mandate including curbing banditry and kidnapping.

In a welcome address, the Emir of Lafia and Chief Convener of the meeting, HRH, Justice Sidi Bage, explained that the meeting became necessary following increase in the spade of banditry and kidnapping in the state.

The royal father, who doubles as the Chairman, Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, said the meeting was summoned to tell each other the truth, discuss openly and to find lasting solutions to the issues at stake.

Other functionaries that attended the meeting include, the State Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko and the Sarkin Fulanin Nasarawa, Senator Walid Jibrin, among others.
