Before you rejoice over the 774000 jobs offer by the Federal Government, you need to know this
If what the Minority Leader of the Upper Chamber, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe said during an interview two days ago is anything to go by, then Nigerians who are looking for a relief from this job offer may just have to wait and drink from the cup of patience.
He said, “The Senate will take an official position on the issue next Tuesday after listening to the outcome of the meeting between the presiding officers and the President over the matter.
“We asked our presiding officers to meet with President Buhari on the issue and we have not had plenary since they returned. The Senate President will brief us on Tuesday at plenary and we will make a decision on it.”
If you still remember, just last week, members of the House of Representatives said the recruitment of 774,000 special workers by the Federal Government remained suspended until the National Assembly says otherwise.
It will be recalled the Senate committee hearing on the exercise had a feud with the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Kayemo which made the programme to put on hold until the federal government explained all grey areas and the modalities for the recruitment.
The question many Nigerians are asking now is: can the president over-rule the National Assembly on this matter? Let's keep our fingers crossed and see what happens in the coming days.
