Why Kwankwaso's move to reunite with Shekarau might end APC's dominance in Kano

Ahead of the 2023 general eections, there are a lot of permutations going on as influential political players try to achieve their political goals.

In Kano State, the former Governor of the State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, is trying to regain his political relevance in the State after he lost the grip of Kano due to his fallout with the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje

Despite Kwankwaso's effort to win Kano State for PDP in the 2019 governorship election, his anointed governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf lost to Governor Ganduje with just 8,982 votes differences.

Kano State will be keenly contested in the 2023 general election because of its relevance. The State has produced the highest votes in the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections in the country.

However, there are strong indications that the Peoples Democratic Party might defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress because of the smart move Kwankwaso has taken.

According to a report by Daily Trust Newspaper, Kwankwaso has moved to reunite with former Governor of the State and Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Progressives Congress.

Kwankwaso disclosed that he is ready to work with Senator Ibrahim Shekarau who have been at loggerhead with Governor Ganduje.

Kwankwaso explained that he was not surprised over the crisis rocking APC in Kano State between Governor Ganduje and Senator Shekarau.

Kwankwaso went further to allege that the crisis between Ganduje and Shekarau was bound to happen because Ganduje did not do anything to favour the people who helped him to get to power.

Senator Shekarau had earlier alleged that he was sidelined by Governor Ganduje after helping him to win his reelection in the 2019 governorship election in Kano State.

Kwankwaso's move to reunite with Shekarau is coming few hours after Shekarau lost out in the ongoing fight to control APC's structure in Kano State.

Recall that the appeal panel sent by APC national secretariat arrived Kano on Saturday and declared that the national body of the party does not recognize the parallel congress conducted by Senator Shekarau-led faction and endorsed the congress that produced, Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the faction loyal Ganduje.

The move by Kwankwaso to reunite with Shekarau to fight the ruling All Progressives Congress in the State might end the dominance of the ruling party in Kano.

Senator Shekarau, a two-term governor of Kano and former Minister of Nigeria played an important role in the reelection of Ganduje in 2019 and the victory of APC during the 2019 presidential election.

Senator Shekarau's efforts with Kwankwaso who is the leader of Kwankwasiyya movement might make it easy for PDP to end APC's dominance in the state in 2023.
